Checking in

In a typical day, we don’t often think beyond our to-do list. I am guilty of it. I get up in the morning, and my mind begins to churn about what needs to get done. But there is more to life. Beyond the physical, our mental health is vital to our overall health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. You don’t have to look far beyond the news to see that in the U.S., our mental health is in need of a daily check-up.

We often remember our routine doctor's visit, but do we check in daily with our mental health?

My morning devotional time helps me focus mentally and affirms that I am loved and supported throughout the day. If you're feeling low, try checking in with God. Trusting Him brings comfort and reassurance for your mental health. Sometimes, life's circumstances can get us down. But we know from Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Somehow, after meditating on scripture, talking with God about my feelings, and praying for his leading in my life and the life of my loved ones, I can walk into my day more secure and confident, even when things aren't all daisies and bluebonnets.

If someone you love seems down or distracted, reach out to them and check in. Invite them for a walk or a coffee today—not later. Take a break and actively connect with anyone you think might benefit from your support. You may never know what a difference it might make.

We are God’s light - his people, and we are meant to shine in places of darkness. Maybe even in a dark corner of someone else's heart.

God Bless you today and every day!
